Detective Conan ED #39 by B’z

Detective Conan’s 39th ending theme song will be sung by B’z. The song is entitled Pilgrim and is a song included in the Japanese hard rock duo’s 18th album, C’mon. The album will be released on July 27, 2011.


The song will be used in the Detective Conan anime from August 6, 2011 and will be used only for the month of August.

New Magic Kaito Anime Special

This week’s issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday (issue #33) is announcing a new anime special for Detective Conan. The anime special, entitled Detective Conan Special—Kaitou Kid Summer Festival: Kaitou Kid’s Busy Date, will air on August 6, 2011. The contents of the special are from Magic Kaito, another series by Detective Conan’s author Aoyama Gosho. Here is a brief summary of the anime special:
“Kaitou Kid, or Kuroba Kaito, sends out a warning card that he will steal The Angel’s Crown from the Treasures of the Medieval Period Exhibition. However, on the same day that he stated on the card, his classmate Nakamori Aoko makes him go out on a date with her. Aoko suspects that Kaito and Kid are the same person, and wants to confirm her suspicions.”

In addition, a second episode entitled The Royal Princess Likes Magic will air on August 13, 2011.
This is the second anime special of Magic Kaito, and spans two episodes this time. The first anime special, entitled The Secret behind the Birth of Kaitou Kid, aired in April 2010.

Conan with Live-Action Ran on SS Cover

Conan is on the cover of issue #32 of Weekly Shonen Sunday. This is the second time Detective Conan is on the cover of the weekly manga magazine this year, the first being issue #20 that was on sale in April. In line with the first Detective Conan live-action drama that premiered on July 7, Kutsuna Shiori who plays Mouri Ran in the drama is on the cover together with Edogawa Conan, the protagonist of Detective Conan.

Detective Conan OP #32 by Garnet Crow

Detective Conan’s 32nd opening theme song will be sung by Garnet Crow. The song is entitled Misty Mystery and is the 33rd single of the Japanese band. The single will be released on 31st August, 2011.


The song will be used in the Detective Conan anime from August 6, 2011.

Detective Conan OP #31 is 45th Number One Single of B’z

The 49th single of Japanese rock duo B’z Don’t Wanna lie, which includes Detective Conan’s 31st opening theme song of the same name, was released on June 1, 2011 and debuted at first place on Oricon’s singles sales ranking chart, selling 169,000 copies in its first week of release.


This is the 45th B’z single in a row to debut at number one on the chart. The rock duo’s first number one single was Taiyou no Komachi Angel, released in June 1990. Don’t Wanna lie has renewed the records of the most number of number one singles and the most number of consecutive number one singles, both of which were already held by B’z.


The song Don’t Wanna lie is the 31st opening theme song of the Detective Conan anime, and also the theme song of the 15th Detective Conan movie, Quarter of Silence. Sales of this single has kicked off to a great start, as it has sold 39,000 more copies than the 130,000 copies sold in the first week of B’z's previous single, Sayonara Kizu Darake no Hibi yo, released in April this year.

The Detective Conan anime is aired on the Japanese broadcasting networks Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation (YTV) and Nippon Network Television Corporation (NTV). NTV has recently released a set of Detective Conan goods:

Detective Conan Live-Action Drama – Comments from Actors & Aoyama


As we (dcfc) have previously reported, Detective Conan will be adapted into its first live-action drama series. Named Thursday Mystery Theater – Detective Conan: A Challenge Letter to Kudou Shinichi, the drama will be aired on Japanese broadcasting networks YTV and NTV from July 7, 2011 onward. Following the television special that aired in April this year, Kudou Shinichi will be played by Mizobata Junpei, while Mouri Ran will be played by Kutsuna Shiori.

Detective Conan Live-Action Drama’s Theme Song by yu-yu

The theme song of Detective Conan’s upcoming live-action drama will be sung by yu-yu.
The title of the song is Kimi to Zutto… or With You Forever…, and the song is included in Japanese singer yu-yu’s single of the same name. The single will be released on August 24, 2011.


While yu-yu has previously released an album entitled Always, this will be her first single. The single bundles a CD and a DVD.

Detective Conan Live-Action TV Series Confirmed

More live-action Detective Conan coming up! And this time, it will be a full television series.


In the next issue (Issue #26) of Weekly Shonen Sunday, which will be on sale on May 25, 2011, there is a special announcement of a new live-action television series for Detective Conan. Previously, three television specials have aired, the first in 2006, the second in 2007 and the third just recently this year in April. However, this time, a full television series is in store. The television adaptation, entitled Detective Conan: A Challenge to Kudou Shinichi will start on July 7, 2011.

2011 Aoyama Gosho Interview


The next climax in the Detective Conan manga will be a showdown between ** and **? More Kaitou Kid soon? The answers to these questions are found in a recent interview with Detective Conan’s author Aoyama Gosho, conducted by the Japanese magazine Otona Fami and published in its June 2011 issue.

After 25 years as a manga artist, Aoyama talks about how he started this job and his various works YaibaMagic Kaitoand Detective Conan. He names the five episodes that he likes most in the Detective Conan anime and talks about the latest movie, Quarter of Silence. In addition, he reveals some spoilers about how the story in the Detective Conan manga will progress in the near future.

Detective Conan OVA 11: Haibara Ai’s Past

As with previous years, an original video animation (OVA) of Detective Conan will be released this year.


OVA 11 is titled “A Secret Order From London” and talks about Haibara Ai’s past, of which not much is known. Apparently, it will reveal a secret about Ai when she was still a girl. Besides Conan and the Detective Kids, Okiya Subaru will also be featured.




To purchase this OVA, you will need to make an order using a form found in Weekly Shonen Sunday. The deadline for orders is June 23, 2011.

Detective Conan’s 15th Movie Opens At Number One

Detective Conan’s 15th movie, Quarter of Silence, opened at number one in Japanese theaters over the past weekend, from April 16-17, 2011.




According to Kogyo Tsushinsha, three new films that opened over the past weekend topped the box office charts of Japan. Among them, Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence emerged first, while Crayon Shin Chan 2011 took second place, followed by Gulliver’s Travels.
As with previous years, a Magic File, an original video animation (OVA) that contains a side story to the movie, will be released. Magic File 2011 is titled “Niigata~Tokyo The Presents Capriccio,” and talks about what happens the day after the story in the movie ends. Hattori Heiji, who did not appear in the movie, will be featured in this side story.




Magic File 2011 is now on sale at all 7-eleven stores in Japan.

Detective Conan ED #38 by Breakerz


Detective Conan’s 38th ending theme song is a song from Breakerz, entitled “Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou” or “Mischievous Magic On The Moonlit Night.”



The song is from Breakerz’s 10th single, “Tsukiyo no Itazura no Mahou / Climber x Climber,” which will be released on April 27, 2011. The exact date of when this new ending theme song will be used in the anime has not been announced yet. This will be the third time a Breakerz song is used for the Detective Conan anime.

Aoyama Gosho Says “No Problem”

As many of us have probably heard from the news, a huge earthquake followed by a devastating tsunami struck Japan on Friday, March 11. Many anime airing schedules have been disrupted, including this week’s Detective Conan episode (#609), which was scheduled to air on March 12.

Fortunately, the safety of Detective Conan’s author, Aoyama Gosho, has been confirmed. Aoyama has left a message through Edogawa Conan’s official Twitter account:
A message from Aoyama-sensei! “It shook pretty badly at my studio, but no problem! I managed to get my manuscript done on time. (lol) P.S. The new character’s name is Sera! He’ll be a pretty important character, so be sure to look out for him ♪”
青山先生からの伝言だよ! 「結構仕事場揺れたけど、ノープロブレム! ちゃんと締め切り前に原稿上げたよ(笑) P.S.新キャラの名前は、『世良』! かなり重要なキャラなので、みんなよろしくねん♪」

Detective Conan 2011 Live-Action Special Stars New Cast (dcfc)

To celebrate the Detective Conan anime and movies’ 15th anniversary, many special events have been lined up for the year 2011 as part of Detective Conan’s 15th Anniversary Special Project.

First, as dcfc has previously reported, a new live-action TV special is set to be broadcast this spring, according to this week’s Weekly Shonen Sunday (Volume 11). Nearly five years after the last live-action TV special was aired, this third live-action adaptation of the Detective Conan series will have a new cast, starring 22-year-old Mizobata Junpei as Kudou Shinichi and 19-year-old Kutsuna Shiori as Mouri Ran. The story is set in a secluded village that is ruled by the legend of a mysterious bird, and is set to have taken place 100 days before Shinichi turned into Conan.

Mizobata Junpei to Play “Kudo Shinichi” for Detective Conan’s Special Drama

Actor Mizobata Junpei will star in a special drama for the live-action of “Detective Conan (Case Closed)” which will be aired in April.

There have been two special dramas for the live-action versions of “Detective Conan” in 2006 and 2007, and Oguri Shun played the main character, Kudo Shinichi, both times. However, this time around, Mizobata is taking over the role, and the heroine, Mouri Ran, which was played by Kurokawa Tomoka in the previous broadcasts, will now be taken over by Kutsuna Shiori.

New Live-Action TV Special For Detective Conan (news version 2)

A new Detective Conan live-action TV special has been announced!


The year 2011 marks the 15th anniversary for both the Detective Conan anime and its movies. In line with this special occasion, many events have been lined up for 2011. According to this week’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine (Volume 10), these events include a new live-action TV special. This week’s magazine also comes with a set of stickers with Aoyama Gosho’s original illustrations for past years’s movie posters:


There have been two live-action TV specials for Detective Conan, starring Oguri Shun as Kudou Shinichi and Kurokawa Tomoka as Mouri Ran. The first special, entitled “Detective Conan: A Challenge to Kudou Shinichi,” was a prequel to the start of the series and aired in 2006 to celebrate the anime’s 10th anniversary. The second special, entitled “Kudou Shinichi Returns! The Showdown With The Black Organization,” aired in 2007 and included more characters, such as members of the Black Organization.

The official Weekly Shonen Sunday website has announced that more details of special events lined up for the 15th anniversary of Detective Conan will be published in its next issue, Volume 11, which will be on sale from February 9, 2011. The promotional image below for Weekly Shonen Sunday’s Volume 11 reads, “Special report on the latest movie and the 15th anniversary special project! The guest for this year’s movie will be that person?! Lots of information not to be missed! For the manga, a new series starts!”

The special is part of the 15th anniversary celebration of the television anime series. More details will be in the next volume of the magazine on February 9.
The first live-action Detective Conan television special with Shun Oguri in the title role aired in 2006 as part of the anime's 10th anniversary. A second special aired the following year.

World Hobby Fair 2011 Winter

The 2011 Winter World Hobby Fair (WHF) took place over the past weekend on January 16, 2011 in Osaka, Japan.
The WHF is a bi-annual event held in Japan and features the latest in manga, anime and games. It is co-organized by Shogakukan, the publisher of Weekly Shonen Sunday (the weekly magazine on which Detective Conan is serialized), and is open to the public for free. Detective Conan T-Shirts

2 more shirts with Gosho Aoyama manga/anime's famous lines on sale this month

At the end of the month, the cosplay outfit store chain Cospa will begin selling three new Detective Conan (Case Closed) T-shirts, including a Black Organization (Kuro-Zukume no Soshiki) one that doubles as a face mask of the manga's antagonists. The Black Organization T-shirt simply has the name of the international criminal organization from Gosho Aoyama's manga and anime printed in Japanese on the front. However, if the wearer pulls the shirt over his or her head, the inside of the shirt reveals the silhouette of one of the manga's mysterious foes as a disguise.
